Body Image – Do you know your body?

What is your body style?

The reality is that very few people have perfectly proportioned bodies. Ladies, either you mope around and do nothing about it, or hit the gym and make the difference. There are 5 main body types:

Pear – when the width of your torso is smaller than the width of your hips. You’ll constantly want to balance the difference between the top and bottom part of your body. Highly recommend working on the upper body, especially the shoulder areas to balance the torso.
Hourglass – when you are well proportioned with a shapely bust and defined waist. You’ll always want to strive to look taller and slimmer.  Ideal body for competition.  Requires a good diet and lots of cardio.
Rectangle – when you are well proportioned and relatively lean but lack curves. You’ll want create a bust and those curves to keep you feminine. Typical runner’s body that lack volume on the body.
Apple – when you are well proportioned but with a little bit of extra around the middle. You’ll want to create shape and disguise your midriff. Another great body for competition.  Again, requires a good diet and lots of mid-section exercises.
inverted triangle
Inverted Triangle – when the width of your shoulders and torso is wider than the width of your hips. You’ll want to soften your shoulders and perhaps your bust line, and add volume to the lower part of your body. Athletic body who tends to be taller girl.  Requires lots of leg exercises such as squats and leg presses.

Once you know which body type you tend to be, you’ll need to know how to work out the weak areas of the body.  Some ladies are combination of the above diagram so they must gear towards exercises that will balance the body.  The hour glass, Apple body, and Pear require a solid diet with lots of cardio.  Rectangle body must have high protein diet with lots of free weight work out to fill the body with some volume.  Inverted triangle requires some major work on legs and focus on leg exercises as the primary focus.

Ladies, focus on yourself and your body, guys will be knocking down your door if you keep yourself in top shape – SjC

I am an Apple body shape since I am a runner. I need some curves and need to fill up my body. Any recommendation on routines I would work on?
